Les salariés d’Euronews en grève pour défendre leurs emplois et leur modèle de rédaction multilingue à Lyon

Rassemblement le 2 février au 56 quai Rambaud Lyon 2 à partir de 10 heures.

Cette année, Euronews fête ses 30 ans. Malheureusement, au siège mondial d’Euronews SA, à Lyon, l’ambiance n'est pas au champagne. Nous devons encore nous battre pour préserver notre tour de Babel de l’information européenne et nos emplois.

A son arrivée, Alpac, notre nouvel actionnaire, nous a promis d’investir dans notre entreprise afin de la rendre rentable. Sept mois après le rachat, la direction n’a toujours pas communiqué ses orientations stratégiques. Si celles-ci doivent être désormais présentées la semaine du 28 février, des décisions et des actions ont déjà été annoncées ; elles suscitent beaucoup d'inquiétudes et d’interrogations.

L’actionnaire a annoncé la mise en vente de notre bâtiment et le rachat partiel de notre marque par sa holding basée au Luxembourg. Il a entamé une série de réductions de coûts qui dégradent nos conditions de travail et aggravent encore le problème du travail en sous-effectif.

Il y a quelques jours, lors d'une rencontre demandée par les trois délégué·es syndicaux, Pedro David Vargas, du fonds d’investissement Alpac, leur a ainsi avancé que : “le siège social restera à Lyon mais nous ne savons pas qui sera dedans. Et les langues européennes travailleront depuis leur bureaux dans des capitales européennes”.

Suite à cette entrevue, les élus du personnel ont demandé la tenue d'un CSE extraordinaire afin d'obtenir des réponses aux nombreuses interrogations concernant l'avenir de l'entreprise et de ses salariés, notamment à propos d’une possible délocalisation. Lors de cette réunion, la direction n'a donné aucune indication sur son plan stratégique ; par contre elle n'a pas démenti les informations sur une éventuelle délocalisation ou un possible plan social.

Euronews va-t-elle s’appauvrir au point de devenir une coquille à moitié vide ? Quelle sera l’ampleur d’une nouvelle réduction des effectifs des bureaux de Lyon ? Se prépare-t-il une délocalisation et/ou une réduction des postes de journalistes vers d'autres pays et des suppressions de postes de techniciens et administratifs, avec quelles conséquences pour les emplois à Lyon ?

Et c’est là le cœur de notre mouvement : la défense de nos emplois dans chaque service et la défense de notre modèle éditorial et économique, ici, à Lyon.

Est-ce la fin annoncée de notre modèle de rédaction inspiré du parlement européen ?

Notre rédaction s’inspire du modèle du parlement européen. Une organisation basée sur le débat d’idées et le mélange des regards, qui a forgé notre compréhension de l’Europe et notre point de vue unique sur l’actualité.

Nos journalistes, en chair et en os, venus de nombreux pays sont réunis à Lyon en une rédaction multilingue et cosmopolite qui discute tous les jours.

Nous sommes une tour de Babel journalistique, dix chaînes d’information fonctionnant autour d’une organisation qui permet aussi de mutualiser moyens techniques et humains, de nombreux professionnels qui seront eux aussi concernés par le nouveau plan d’affaire.

Demain, le projet est-il de retourner chacun chez soi pour construire un regard éclaté sur l’actualité ?

Un peu d’histoire

Euronews a commencé à émettre à Lyon voici 30 ans. Pourquoi Lyon ? Simplement car ce fut la ville qui offrait les meilleures conditions pour accueillir la chaîne, alors lancée en cinq langues.

Puis, il y a douze ans, Euronews créait en complément de sa rédaction multilingue de Lyon, un bureau multilingue à Bruxelles dans le but de produire des émissions en direct avec différentes personnalités politiques et économiques, européennes notamment, suivi en 2018 de postes de correspondants dans certaines grandes capitales européennes : Paris, Berlin, Rome, Londres.

Un quatrième plan de licenciements, voilà notre crainte principale aujourd’hui. Voir notre rédaction démantelée, notre unité brisée signerait la fin de notre fameux “ADN européen”...

Ainsi, environ 170 salariés d’Euronews réunis en assemblée générale le 26 janvier dernier ont voté une première journée de grève le 2 février afin de protester contre les premières mesures d’économies, la dégradation des conditions de travail qui en découle, la menace qui pèse sur les emplois de nos 600 salariés (CDI, CDD, pigistes et intermittent) et un possible démantèlement de notre rédaction multilingue à Lyon.

Un rassemblement aura lieu le 2 février à 10h devant le siège social d'Euronews au 56 quai Rambaud Lyon 2e.

Euronews employees on strike to defend their jobs and their multilingual editorial model in Lyon

This year, Euronews celebrates its 30th anniversary. Unfortunately, at euronews SA's world headquarters in Lyon, the mood is not one of champagne. We still have to fight to preserve our European information Tower of Babel and our jobs.

When Alpac, our new shareholder, arrived, it promised to invest in our company to make it profitable. Seven months after the acquisition, the management has still not communicated its strategic orientations. Although these are to be presented during the week of February 28, decisions and actions have already been announced, raising many concerns and questions.

The shareholder has announced the sale of our building and the partial buyout of our brand by its Luxembourg-based holding company. He has initiated a series of cost reductions that are degrading our working conditions and further aggravating the problem of understaffing.

A few days ago, during a meeting requested by the union delegates, Pedro David Vargas, from the Alpac investment fund, told them that: "the head office will remain in Lyon, but we don't know who will be there. And the European languages will work from their offices in European capitals.

Following this meeting, the staff representatives asked for an extraordinary CSE meeting to be held in order to obtain answers to the many questions concerning the future of the company and its employees, particularly concerning a possible relocation. During this meeting, the management did not give any indication on its strategic plan; on the other hand, it did not deny the information on a possible relocation or a possible social plan.

Will Euronews be so impoverished that it becomes a half-empty shell ? What will be the extent of a new reduction in the number of staff in the Lyon office ? Are we preparing for a relocation and/or a reduction in the number of journalists to other countries and for the elimination of technical and administrative positions, with what consequences for jobs in Lyon ?

And this is the heart of our movement: the defense of our jobs in each department and the defense of our editorial and economic model, here in Lyon.

Is this the announced end of our newsroom inspired by the European Parliament ?

Our newsroom is inspired by the European Parliament model. An organization based on the debate of ideas and the mixing of views, which has forged our understanding of Europe and our unique point of view on current events.

Our journalists, in flesh and blood, from many countries are gathered in Lyon in a multilingual and cosmopolitan newsroom that discusses every day.

We are a journalistic Tower of Babel, 10 news channels operating around an organization that also allows us to pool technical and human resources, many professionals who will also be concerned by the new business plan.

Tomorrow, is the project to return each one to its place to build a fragmented view of the news ?

Our history

Euronews began broadcasting in Lyon 30 years ago. Why Lyon? Simply because it was the city that offered the best conditions for hosting the channel, which was then launched in five languages.

Then, twelve years ago, in addition to its multilingual newsroom in Lyon, Euronews created a multilingual bureau in Brussels with the aim of producing live broadcasts with various political and economic personalities, particularly from Europe, followed in 2018 by correspondent posts in some of the major European capitals: Paris, Berlin, Rome, London.

A fourth redundancy plan is our main fear today. Seeing our editorial staff dismantled, our unity broken would sign the end of our famous "European DNA"...

Thus, about 170 employees of euronews gathered in a general assembly on January 26th voted for a first day of strike on February 2nd to protest against the first measures of savings, the degradation of the working conditions which results from it, the threat which weighs on the jobs of our 600 employees (permanent, fixed-term, freelance and intermittent) and a possible dismantling of our multilingual editorial office in Lyon.

A rally will take place on February 2 at 10am in front of the Euronews headquarters at 56 quai Rambaud Lyon 2nd.
